Two Columbia Missouri Boy Scouts were in the right place at the right time at a park on Friday afternoon when they heard the cries for help of an 18 year old female teen who was struggling to stay afloat in floodwaters at Hinkson Creek. The two teens Joseph Diener, 16, and Dominic Viet, 15 were riding their bicycles in the park when they decided to save the female teenager who made an error in judgement by swimming in a flooded creek. The young lady had been in the creek for about 30 minutes. The young lady was hanging on for dear life by holding on to a basketball hoop that was nearly submerged. Both Joseph and Dominic went into a rescue mode by traveling 10 yards from the shore to where she was struggling to stay afloat as they had her grab onto their shoulders as they struggled to get back to the shore battling six feet of water and a slight current with the help of other strangers to get her to safety. The female teen was then taken by an ambulance to a local hospital where her condition is not known as this time. She was awake by the time she and the two Boy Scouts got to safety. Dominic and Joseph decided that they had to take a chance and rescue a teen who was in trouble instead of calling 911 and waiting for the first responders to do the work for them. Scoutmaster Morgan Dailey of Troop 6 mentioned that both teens will be rewarded for their act of heroism in the near future. It is nice to see that despite the challenges that the Boy Scouts of America have been facing due to some scandals recently that there are some real good teens in our world today.

the river must be given a sign that it is forbidden to swim, the two young people are heroes, it's really extraordinary their decision to help the girl who almost drowned deserves a thumbs up, I hope the girl gets well soon and thank goodness there are no fatalities

I agree with you since they decided to save the teen by risking their own lives instead of waiting for the first responders.

Boy scouts are true to their scout oath and law. One of it is "help people at all time". And one of the law is "helpful."

Since I stay away from the news I've not heard about the scandals but it's good that they took the initiative and that their lives weren't compromised too.

That's great that those boys helped out. Its also terrible that the boy scouts are involved in scandals.

It breaks my heart that the scandals have tainted their good person image.

Once I was a scout master. I felt proud of Dominic and Joseph. That's what a Boy Scout is for!
