At least JJ knows the top two songs. Hope he concurs. But before we get to the top two we have to stop at #3, and that’s today’s position on my list of favorite sax solos. This one may surprise you. Then again, it may not. Let’s find out.
#3: Long As I Can See the Light - Creedence Clearwater Revival
I guess it should be no surprise that it’s on the list, given that this is my favorite CCR song.
Here’s what may surprise you: the saxophone work is done by none other than Mr. John Fogerty.
A fluke? Nope. He did the happy, upbeat sax on “Rock and Roll Girls” on his great Centerfield album, too. (If you didn’t know, Fogerty played all the instruments on that marvelous “comeback” album.)
Here the sax work is moody, fitting the bluesy feel of the song perfectly.
Not the person you’d expect on a list with the likes of Michael Brecker and David Sanborn, but the solo works so well in the song I couldn’t leave it off.

He’s a very talented man. Here’s his sax work on “Rock and Roll Girls.”

i love CCR, but struggle with their stuff (due to the way Fogarty was treated) epic song though!
