@prashu228 I have tasted many times, I also make a jam using them. I am Italian, we had plenty of them coming from Sicily.

Like @LadyDuck mentioned, we have those in Sicily, the "prickly pears". They're very sweet but also full of small hard seeds. They can be swallowed, but don't make eating this fruit a very pleasant experience, in my opinion. I never got to peel them, someone else would do that for me, but that must be even worse.

@prashu228 Are you sure it was a prickly pear? The prickly pear has small, hard seeds you cannot chew them, you have to swallow (it's safe) or to spit.

You are right about the seeds, this is why I prepare a jam, so I pass the pulp throw a siever and I get rid of the seeds. Many places sell them already peeled. I dislike peeling but I think it's safer now.

Yes cactus fruits are edible and can be used to prepare a variety of dishes but the process of making it edible is a very complicated one and time taking too one have to be very careful while plucking it and removing it's needles it tastes a bit like watermelon

@prashu228 before using them you have to burn it's skin with fire using a knife then put the fruit in a cloth and rub it vigorously

The dragon fruit is a very famous example of a cactus fruit. I've seen it sold in our supermarkets and groceries but I have not tasted it yet.
