Why does Yahoo get tons more spam/junk than Gmail?

I was scrolling through my Yahoo junk folder to see if anything may have gone in there that should not have. It happens sometimes. I saw an email telling me that my PayPal is limited. Then I saw another email that said that my Netflix account is on hold. I don't even have a Netflix account. Of course, I did not open either of these emails as they are spam. I wonder why it is that Yahoo gets tons more spam/junk than Gmail. It is very annoying. I also saw some emails where the sender's name is GoResume or something like that. I was surprised to see these emails there as usually they appear in my inbox. I never subscribed to that and find it very annoying when I keep getting emails from them. I tried to unsubscribe but to do that they are asking me for my full name and email. I did not want to give them that. And I shouldn't have to. Maybe the next time I get an email from them I can mark it as spam (if that option exists) so they never go to my inbox.

I notice that as well. It is quite aggravating that yahoo is so 'open' with their policies. If I knew then what I know now, I would not have signed up with yahoo. There are 2 other accounts I have with different providers. I like those 2 much better. The only reason I am holding on to yahoo is because I get a lot of mail from different sources. It's easier for me to keep the same email address rather than having everyone switch to one of the other accounts.

I use my Yahoo email in many places, some of which have that email as a username so that is why I have not deleted this email account and still use it.

@lovebuglena As long as you are aware of all the nonsense junk you have to sift through, you should be fine. That's how I do it.

@betlynfrnds I wish it wouldn't come though, even if most of it goes straight to the junk folder.

It simply means that Yahoo email is not secured. It doesn't filter spam messages as compared to gmail.

By filter do you mean not let them come to your email account?

@Nakitakona I do not always scan the junk folder before emptying it but not a good idea as I've had emails that were not spam appear there.

@lovebuglena Yes. If there's none. They usually go to spam folder and you have to scan them if they're spam or not.

I think it's because Gmail has better spam filters, and learns as you go, whereas Yahoo isn't as good at it? Or is a little less secure, so easier to trap people? To each their own....

If I didn't have a lot of places where I use my Yahoo email, and it being a username in places, I'd have gotten rid of this email address and just switched to using my gmail.

On the plus side, the spam mostly goes into the junk folder and doesn't clutter up the inbox.

I am lucky. With my ISP I get very few spam emails.
