A fire destroyed the old inn

Three years ago my husband and I spent a weekend in an old inn in the northwestern part of Denmark. Yesterday the inn burned down. It is very sad, the buildings were 600 years old and there is almost nothing left. It is sad, but things could have been even worse. They were supposed to re-open tomorrow and all of the rooms were booked. If the fire had happened a couple days later people could have been trapped inside their rooms and it could have ended much, much worse. Since the inn was still closed when it happened no one was injured or killed. The owners are devastated. First they were forced to remain closed because of COVID and when they were finally able to re-open this happened. Of course they have to cancel every single reservation and they were fully booked from July to December

Yes, it is. There is almost nothing left, and I feel sorry for the owners. I know they put a lot of work into the place.

That's so unfortunate. I hope they'll receive all the support they need, not just financial but also financial, of course. Sucks how history is so fragile.

They really need support. I have been there, and I know how much work they put into the place. Every room had unique decorations and they all had different themes. I stayed in a beautiful room called the Hans Christian Anderson room and it was full of fairy tale books and many other things.

@Porcospino Aww, that was creative! Hope they still have some of that creativity left to remake such nice unique rooms.

This is tragic! Hope the inn is insured.

I am pretty sure that they have insurance. The owners have a lot of work ahead of them. There is almost nothing left of the original inn. I was there 3 years ago and I know how much work they put into the rooms etc. (every room had a unique theme and unique decorations)

The owners must be heartbroken. At least, no one got hurt.

So sad. But glad it happened when it did. The loss of lives would have been even worse

I agree. It could have been even worse. I am glad that all of the rooms were empty. They have deer and other animals, and I was also very happy to read that they managed to save all of the animals. The animals lived pretty close to the building, and they were evacuated when the fire was discovered.

They don't know yet, but there will be a fire investigation. They think that it could be a pyromaniac, but they aren't sure yet.

Hopefully, the people are covered by insurance. But, of course, even if they are, their loss is enormous.

I am pretty sure that they have insurance, but they are definitely going to lose a lot of money anyway. I know that they struggled last year and the first half of this year just like many other hotels. They were looking forward to re-opening, but that is impossible now.
