Groceries Delivered

United States

Do you have your groceries delivered to your home or do you prefer to go to the market and select your own? I am picky about meats and fruits and vegetables. I select bananas when a few in the bunch are still green. I like to feel the firmness of the heads of lettuce, that the bacon has more meat than fat, that the meats and poultry are appealing. You know, picky. I do not believe someone else can choose my products as well as I can. Why do you shop the way you do?

I always handpick my own stuff at the market. Not only am I particular about the items, but I like looking for sales and finding new ingredients. Plus I go to several different markets . . . it's just easier if I get my groceries myself.

@Vikingswest1 True - I most likely would make do and not get mad at myself over something iffy that I picked out. But I sure wouldn't want to pay or wait for someone to deliver me something iffy!

I would agree. This way if something is substandard, it's my own fault.

I go to Safeway or Trader Joe's.

In a small area, there are only a few choices for the large chains. It's Safeway or Albertsons, which belong to the same company now or Walmart. There are a few smaller places and farm stores but it's sure different from a real city. I grew up near Minneapolis. When I moved here there was only Safeway and the first fast food place had just opened. I am happy that progress has been made. I have to drive an hour and a half to see a Trader Joe's

I prefer to do my own shopping as well. Besides that, where we live no one would deliver anyway. If I have to go pick it up, I had just as soon pick it out as well. I have thought that I might like a service like Misfits Market, though.

My relatives and myself like to go to the supermarkets and buy our own groceries.

I think that's the best way. You're sure of what you're getting.

@Deepizzaguy Some stores offer free delivery. But you know that cost is built in to the prices.

@Vikingswest1 You are right since having food delivered from a supermarket is kind of expensive.

I agree and do my own grocery shopping. I also would not like substitutions on my grocery lists. This happens many times to my friend that has hers delivered.

Yes. The quality of meats and produce is questionable too.

I enjoy going to the grocery store I find it entertaining to be honest. No one delivers out here, and if someone agreed to, you would have to pay a premium for the privildge!

Some of my funniest stories began in a grocery store. The entertainment that can be had is alone, worth the trip. I prefer to do my own shopping too.

I used to go and pick it up but a couple of weeks ago I found a place online that is a warehouse and you pick what you want and they deliver it. I have tried them twice and was very satisfied. I ordered some fruits and vegetables and the quality was pretty good.

@Vikingswest1 Yes, I appreciate having the option in case I should get sick or it's too cold or too hot to go out. I also like to see the produce but was surprised by the good quality of what I ordered and the prices were even better than the grocery store where I normally shop.

It's nice to have that option, especially if the quality is good. It saves you a lot of trouble. I like to see and to feel products before purchasing.

@kanuck1 Usually, because delivery and staging costs the store more, it translates to higher prices or delivery charges. It's nice to get such good prices AND quality produce.

I've bought groceries online since the pandemic started, but I still prefer shopping for groceries at the supermarket. Like you, I'm picky about stuff like onions, chilli, and other fruits and veggies. Once they replaced a few items I ordered because they were out of stock.

I think that online shopping has helped many people get through a tough time. Some people prefer it. I'm like you and like to select each item myself.

@Vikingswest1 I understand that. We will order from Walmart but it is when we need to stock up on pantry items, not to buy meat fruits or veggies.

Most of the times I would prefer to go and pick my own food, especially fresh food. I also want to compare the prices and quantity. Some items like coffee and cat food can be bought online as it's easier that way.
