What do you think?

The Olympics start in Japan pretty soon, and I wondered what everyone thought. On the news there was a story about a bunch of Japanese citizens protesting the fact that the Olympics are taking place at all. They recently announced due to the Covid state of emergency no spectators would be allowed (I did hear some events held outside Tokyo might allow a few.). For some athletes the Olympics are the pinnacle of their career, like gymnastics or swimming. Whereas, tennis and basketball athletes, while proud of their Olympic achievement, find their best success outside of the Olympic games. My point being if the games were canceled some athletes would be disappointed while others might be devastated. I'll be watching the games, but I would have understood if Japan had backed out. They were in a bad situation since their country spent so much money in preparation. I think they just want to do the right thing. Next year, the Winter Olympics will be in China. I could say a lot about THAT, but I won't. What events will you watch? I look forward to seeing gymnast Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in American history. I also like beach volleyball, and swimming.

Been watching the Games of the Olympics after learning about the murders at the Munich Olympiad of '72. Foreign sounding names such as Romanian Nadia Comaneci and Russian Olga Korbut were synonymous with youth, grace, beauty, and dexterity. The various team sports were exciting, especially volleyball and rowing, relay runs and swim sprints. So were the individual categories in shot put, long jump, a hundred meter dash. Oh, Bolt was lightning speed. But Shawn White in skateboarding is a super delight! Very sad for the host country Japan, pretty sure the Japanese has prepared a spectacle. Heart breaking for the athletes who could have been so excited aiming to break records.... My take on the Olympics pushing through - not in favor. The participants are not into it. But I'd tune in.

I'll be watching regardless of spectators or not. Our athletes work and train hard for this moment, and they deserve our support. While we may not be able to be there in person to cheer them on, we can certainly show our support through the TV ratings. The more people who tune in and watch, the higher the ratings will be.

That is such a shame that this pandemic continues to screw with people's lives. I think the Olympics are a good distraction honestly.

If so much time and energy hadn't been put into it, I think the athlits would've backed out. The whole point of doing sports like that and spending four years training, is for public viewing. If there are no fans or spectators allowed in-person, it kind of defeats the purpose. Nascar wound up cutting their season short when fans weren't allowed in the stands, because it wasn't worth all the time and money if everyone was forced to view behind a computer screen.

I watch quite a bit of any Olympics. I also like gymnastics, volleyball and swimming. After all of the training and preparation, I'm glad the athletes will get to participate. Also, Japan has put out a tremendous amount of money to construct all the venues and counts on revenue from visitors to make a profit.

Yes, for sure. It has to be an astronomical amount of money.

The olympics are always so controversial, 1 team doped their athletes, but denied it and won a medal, but then had it striped, and so on. I do not think that they should go on this year, and they had plenty of time to reschedule them, this virus has been around since 2019.

I’ve only looked at the scores. For some reason, my heart wasn’t in it this year.

I'll definitely be watching. I agree with you about Simone Biles. I love watching the gymnasts, swimming, beach volleyball, and a few others. I didn't know there weren't going to be spectators, but it makes sense.

It is a great shame that there will be very few spectators. I can't imagine too many countries wanting to go to China. I certainly wouldn't go there.

I am looking to see the women's gymnastics to witness Simone Biles attempting to prove her claim that she is the best ever.

Some have withdrawn due to the pandemic. Looks like some dilution of standards will happen with so many restrictions and a few testing positive. Hope it manages to do well. I like athletics.

Olympics is a program that will burn a lot of money,it can satisfy the vanity of the rulers, but it's not beneficial to the people.People have to pay a lot of taxes for this stupid program.I never like it,it should be shut down. Olympics is not good as World Cup,it's easy to work, and it will bring the country and people a lot of money and fame

I am also a huge Simone Biles fan. And I can see both sides to the issue at hand.
