Children and Choices

I believe that children have to learn how to make choices and deal with real consequences as young as possible. I don't mean it is a mean and angry way, I believe that parenting that way gives children a taste of reality and understanding.
I offered to take two children to an event. One chose to go and the other chose to stay home.
The child who went to the event participated in all the activities and even came home with some prizes and money. The child who stayed home was angry and bored when we returned and there was nothing for him.
I took a few minutes and talked about choices and how come they are important. I didn't say he made a bad choice. He just chose to stay home, sleep and play a few games. He got to do exactly what he wanted. It was a great learning experience if he chooses to see it that way. Time will tell.

When I was a teacher I used to always tell the kids in my class - you can do that - but here is what will happen. Sometimes they still choose to do what I told them wouldn't work.
But they learned - learned to seek counsel, And learned when I would not guide them, that they had to choose. it is such a critical skills!

I believed choice is more important than efforts in a sense.for sure,people should accept consequence from choice.I agree to your manner educating children,I will teach my kid to make choice on his own as early as possible.
