I use a 'gent's' umbrella

Funny women here usually use folding umbrellas that are far smaller than what we call 'gent's' umbrellas. I find this arrangement pretty odd as though women get less rain.
Folding umbrellas are actually a nuisance as they cannot withstand heavy rain and wind. Also by the time the umbrella is opened one gets totally drenched
What's you call on this?

I didn't knew there are Mr and Ms umbrellas...
The umbrella which won't get me wet and withstand the strong wind is enough..

What makes you say they suit ladies and kids. Is the rain special for ladies and kids that they are protected?

Pink is not always liked by girls....common misunderstanding..
Everyone thinks girls like pink..but that's not always right..
Everyone have their choices...in same way some like some don't.

These folding umbrellas are more suited to protect oneself from the sun. About carrying a large umbrella one has to make adjustments if one has to protect oneself from heavy rain and wind.

We normally call those huge umbrellas as 'gent's' umbrellas and actually only men here are seen using them. I think out of the box and prefer to be practical.

I agree that a "gents' umbrella provides much better coverage even if it's not as pretty or trendy as a womans.

It depends... I have a folding umbrella because it is handy to pop into a bag if you are going out and think perhaps it might rain, but carrying a big umbrella would be a nuisance (and there is always the risk of putting it down in a shop or something and then forgetting it). But if I'm just walking somewhere and it's already raining or very likely to, then I take a bigger, non-folding umbrella because it is bigger and more sturdy. And I have a big rainbow-coloured one which is my favourite : )

One can never predict rain most of the time and if it rains someone equipped with a folding umbrella that is neatly put in a bag will surely have an interesting story to tell

You are right on the folding umbrella and also they do not last. I have seen many left on the ground. I stopped using an umbrella and wear things with hoods.

I do not wear a raincoat. I have a down coat with a hood and a warm winter jacket with a hood.
