I Am Back!

Whoa, it's been a while for me. Sorry, I didn't mean to desert you all. I last wrote about my time in CT and helping my brother do a big yard sale at my parents' house. It was a big success and while we are happy with the results, the whole week was emotionally and physically taxing on me. In fact I lost 4 pounds between the many steps I took (the first day of the yard sale I hot 15,000 steps), and sweating in the heat during the yard sale and preparing for it. Emotions were running high between my brother and I, and we uncovered a lot of stuff from our childhood, so that added to the emotions. I am glad the week is over and I am back home in GA. Have you ever had to clean out a parent or relative's house after they died, and was it emotional for you?

Good to see you. I know how going through things like that can bring back emotional feelings. I had to do everything when my Dad passed, I am the only sibling left.

@CarolDM I am fortunate to also have my brother. I am not sure he still feels the same though after all is said and done. I hope so though.

@wolfgirl569 Yes, it was but it was worthwhile in the end.

Glad you are back, and no..I am not looking forward to that day. I would suspect it won't be coming for awhile. Even if my dad passes away, I think my mother will opt to stay in the house as long as she can. She isn't thrilled with an assistive living type idea, although it would probably be in her best interest.

@snowy22315 That's good if it won't be coming for a while. But you may want to help your parents start thinning things out now...a yard sale or donating stuff is a good idea.

I'm still living in my parents' house so not cleaning anything. I am sure I would uncover lots of thing when I do that as well.

@prinzcy If they are anything like my parents, you may someday discover things that are 70+ years old!

it must be the most emotional moment in your life, when we had to clean up the beautiful moments that we used to remember, there must be a lot of beautiful memories in it. I suggest that it be stored in a safe place, so that someday if we want to open those old memories again, we can immediately find out where the items full of memories are stored

@yiufiq I did keep some things, and some photos but there is just no room for a lot of it so it was better to see it go to good homes. Ha, sounds like I am talking about pets!
