No smoking? Oh, I’d never break that rule. I don’t smoke, and I never have, thank God. I saw enough of it out of my parents. But when it comes to songs with “smoke” in the title, that’s a different subject all together! Here’s today’s song.
#7: Smoke Gets in Your Eyes - Platters
I love the Platters. There are three Platters songs on my 100 favorites list.
This is not one of them.
This song goes back to the 1930s and a musical called Roberta. Its popularity has been longstanding. I remember an episode of M*A*S*H where Hawkeye even parodied this by singing, “They asked me how I knew her brassier was blue….”
The beauty of one of the greatest vocal groups ever comes back in this “smoky” classic. Enjoy.
