Do you use apps to learn a new language?

I want to learn Spanish. I noticed that many jobs from home need Spanish or Italian. I like Spanish the most and it's easy for me to learn it. I wonder if there are any apps that are useful. Do you use apps to learn a new language? Which is the best app for you? I am willing to pay for it if it's good enough.

I haven't got any at the moment, but I really like to learn Spanish. I'm watching an Italian drama and their language is cute.

i was learning Russian and i used Duolingo - it's good to learn basic stuff and new words and after that i used Tandem - where you meet new people and they help you with learning new language and you help them with you native language or English. i liked it.

@aureategloom I will search for it. I hope I will find it. It seems a good app. But do you talk to them through messages? Or do you have to make video calls?

Is Tandem a free app? Do you meet teachers there?

@dya80dya it's free app. there are some teachers, but you pay for them, on Tandem you meet native speakers of the language you're learning and if they're learning your native language or English - you can help them with that - correct their grammar, help them learn new words and stuff. it's a good app.

I wish I have the time to. My kids and I tried using Duolingo for fun though. It's a nice app and it's free.

@dya80dya Yes it's more suitable for learning languages leisurely during one's free time. For serious in depth learning you really need to take courses.

I have plenty of time. Duolingo is a nice app, but it's not enough.

There's Duolingo and/or Memrise. You can also try looking for decent video tutorials or podcasts. It probably depends on the type of learning you prefer.

@dya80dya The two podcasts I can think of right now are SpanishPod101 and Coffee Break Spanish. I believe they're both on YouTube. I haven't used Memrise myself, but overall I've heard good things about it.

Doulingo. I'm also trying to learn Spanish first, it's a bit easier for me. Then maybe Japanese or French after.

@iammary Yes, it's good to know many foreign languages. But I would like to know them perfectly so I can teach them to others.

@dya80dya at least some basics. You'll never know, right? What if I meet people from other countries, or I'll get a chance to go to other countries. I also want to learn Korean too

@dya80dya learning language is not so easy unless you have some to talk to you in that language. Apps do help but won't make you an expert in the language
