Since I’ve mentioned a time or two what my favorite Bee Gees song is, I guess the “suspense” ends today. And what do you know, it ends with a surprise: an album cut! See, I can throw a curve ball occasionally (“juuuuuuuuuuuuust a bit outside,” as Uke said). Here’s today’s Bee Gees favorite.
#2: Israel
He that touches you touches the pupil of God’s eye. (Zechariah 2:8)
Ah, those were the days. You could actually be pro-Israel without incurring international wrath (there’s a “cultural boycott” of Israel now, the “BDS” movement). Given that Barry Gibb’s daughter-in-law is Israeli, I don’t know that he really cares what the rest of the world thinks.
This song dates to 1971, before the terrorism, the intifadas, the Olympic massacre, and all the other things that Israel has suffered…all of which seems to be their fault in the world’s eyes.
It’s a beautiful song about a beautiful Holy Land.

I know. That’s why I won’t eat Ben & Jerry’s anymore. They decided to boycott Israel, so I’m boycotting them.
