First Protein Bread Made!

It made two loaves of bread which is nice. Sadly the egg white powder is expensive! It was about 15 bucks for like 2 cups of powder!!
I liked the flavor and texture of the bread...nice and soft. However...the crust is a bit styrofoamy. Yeah, I need to fix that lol. However it's edible and super low carb.
Will be great for next week. I may get an affordable stand mixer too.

Well it's edible...lol
And 1 cup per batch which makes 2 loaves. I'm going to make a sweet one later which only uses half the amount

@MommyOfEli2013 You can't use real eggs for it?

@just4him I do use regular egg whites. It is the egg whites, the egg white protein powder (I might be able to use whey protein....but the original creator of the recipe is dairy free so doesn't use regular protein powders), cream of tartar. Then other things added if you want for flavor.

I have never tried making this type of bread, and it sounds interesting. What kind of flour do you use?

@MommyOfEli2013 That sounds better because I'm on Low Carb and High Fat Diet(LCHF).

@asianlady So, you do Keto? I do that mostly, but going to be adding lower fat, higher protein days. But yes this bread has maybe 1 carb per slice

This link will give you some substitute ideas to try for the powder You might just need to adjust either your liquids you add or your bake time a little. Real egg might help with that styrofoamy thing too. But glad you like it. That could help a lot
Eggs are one of the most used kitchen ingredients. We are using them to make breakfast, bread, cakes,…

I will look at the list, thank you....I think I know the issue - I didn't put the xanthan gum. Or, maybe it is because I added the egg white powder at the end. I use real egg whites...I wonder if I could use whey protein instead of the egg white protein. I used keto chow powder and only half the amount of egg white protein powder in a sweet flavor one I made tonight and the texture is not as styrofoamy. The first I think will be okay as sandwhich bread, or toasted.

Maybe smear butter over the crust, just before you bake it. This would help it brown and become softer.

I'm not sure if that would work with this since it's mostly just egg whites lol

Good for you. I'm sorry that the egg white powder is so expensive. That seems like an awful lot. Have you shopped around?

Not sure why it is so expensive to turn egg whites into powder?! All the egg white powders seem to be expensive. I bought some zero carb protein powder that's not egg whites...and I will see if the bread turns out with it.
