Hilo Police Officer Benjamin Nishimoto received his reward at the police headquarters on Tuesday for his act of bravery taking care of a male suspect who was ready to use a shotgun on his mother during a family dispute in their home in June.
Officer Nishimoto was just getting off duty when he and two of his fellow officers were called to deal with a family dispute between a son and his mom for reasons that are not known at this time.
Officer Nishimoto who is a 13 year veteran of the police force managed to use his experience as a police officer to capture the young man after he fired shots at the police officers who were ordered by Officer Nishimoto to keep away from the danger zone.
The officer managed to find a way to capture the shooter and take him into custody at the same time saving the lives of his fellow officers who were with him during the shooting.
It is there one fact concerning being a police officer, firefighter and the medical profession, they are on the clock 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
Congratulations to Officer Nishimoto for his service to his community in receiving his award from his superiors.

Domestic disputes are dangerous to the police. Many have been injured in these fights. The officer was brave and should be commemorated for saving lives, including his own. I am grateful for the police, firefighters, and all other front-line workers who try to keep us safe. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

I agree with you many television shows have stated the domestic fights are the hardest for police to deal with.

He truly deserves it. Many people could have gotten killed or seriously hurt if it wasn't for what he had done.
