Must still wear masks to go to the library

Here in NYC you have to wear a mask if you go to the library. I had to go to the library today to return a few books, pick up a book that was on hold for me, and maybe take out a few more books after browsing.
I put on my mask and walked inside. At first I was doing fine. I returned my books, and took the book from the hold's shelf. Then I went to browse for poetry books. That's when I got hot, started to sweat a lot, and felt like there was not enough air. Slightly lowering my mask didn't help. I wanted to yank the damn thing off completely but didn't.
I took seven books from the shelf, without really looking through them to see if I wanna take them out or not, and went straight to the checkout counter. Thankfully, I didn't have to wait in line. As soon as the guy scanned my books I was out of there fast, yanking the mask of before even exiting the place. I felt so much better once my mask was off and I was outside, even though it was very humid and stuffy outside.
I ended up taking out eight books. One is a novel and the rest are poetry books. Those are rather quick reads compared to the novel. I already finished one and partly done with the second one.

It was all in the mind. The mask was bothersome to you that is why you felt irritated.
But good thing you obeyed the library rules. At least you did not put the people in there at risk of getting infected. You could be a carrier and not know it.

@lovebuglena Your post implied you were picking on the mask all throughout your library experience that you couldn't wait ridding of the little mask - 'yanking the mask of before even exiting the place.'
Yet it is commendable that your disposition to follow protocol despite a discomforting situation prevailed. A small sacrifice from each one of us for the benefit of the greater good. The pandemia has lingered long enough that only a collective action from each one of us could end this harrowing health crisis.

@eileenleyva I wasn't doing that the whole time I was there. Just lowered it once and then yanked it off before exiting.

I was not feeling irritated. I felt hot and sweaty and like there wasn't enough air.

@lovebuglena For me, it is gasping for air.

Like people will say it is all in your mind when you say masks are hard to breathe in. That's not true.

I do not think that masks work. At least not unless they are N95.

I'm sorry you had such a problem with the mask. Unfortunately they are still necessary.

I do not wear them unless I go to the library or the bus or train as they are required.
