Although I didn’t get to play yesterday I had a blast. The pro leading at halftime has been on a tear lately, and he didn’t stop yesterday. He shot a 90, which is 54 under par for four rounds. Let’s sing his praises! And let’s sing another song by the great Neil Sedaka while we’re at it. Here’s a tune I used in a recent countdown, back for seconds.
#7: The Queen of 1964
A cool song because it’s 70s Sedaka but it sounds like 60s Sedaka. Also, this may be the funniest song Sedaka ever did.
It’s the tale of a groupie who’s been neglected of late because she’s not young and pretty anymore. Or, as Sedaka put it, “Nobody wants an overage groupie now.” But she had her memories: about “a kick and a black eye from Bianca” Jagger for trying to score with Mick, for instance.
Like a lot of groupies (there’s one on the August obit list who was mentioned in a song), she was fondly remembered, to the point where the Troubadour in L.A. had “a moment of silence” when she died.
This was a hit in England but didn’t make it to the States during his “comeback” phase. It wasn’t released until the “bonus” CD of The Hungry Years. A crying shame.

That’s why I paired this countdown with the Stones. One of the two of them will appeal.

Of course you’ve heard of him. I’ve been talking about him all week.
