Due to the upcoming 20 year anniversary of 9/11, National Geographic had a special.
The first was George W Bush's first hand account of that day from when he woke up.
I'm in awe of how he actually conducted himself on that day.
He took a run, spent time with kids reading in a classroom and had to deliver the news in that school...in a classroom of parents and teachers that the US was under attack.
As a civilian we don't see what the President actually was feeling and doing that day.
He wanted to go back to Washington and lead. Be a wartime president where he was needed. Secret Service wouldn't let him. It wasn't safe.
He wanted to make sure his wife and kids were ok. It took time because everyone was in a secure location and until he got word he was worried for his family.
Bush had to make executive and to be frank very difficult decisions in the heat of the moment while we all watched what was happening.
We can make judgements about how it was handled but really he did the best he could. We did the best we could.
There are a million and one theories about how it could have been prevented or that it was planned to go down that way by the government. I've seen some that could be true and some that are way out there.
That's all they are though, theories.
I can remember the day very well. I was in middle school. I was in social studies with Mr. Livermore. Parkville had TVs in the classrooms and due to his class being social studies we had the TV on CNN or some other news channel.
I don't remember what he was teaching. I remember parents starting to pull their kids out of school. Then I can remember the TV catching everyone's attention.
We watched the second plane hit. We heard the press cover the calls from the planes that crashed.
These are memories that will never fade as I'm sure is the case for so many people that actually were there or also lived through it. This is what actually happened.
It was an interesting hour program to watch and it gives you a different insight to that day.
Have you forgotten? I haven't.

I know I won't either. I watch something on it every year around the anniversary. I'd love to go see the memorial but I really don't want to go to New York...it's a dilemma lol

So true. I was talking to my husband last night that it just doesn't feel like it's been so long.
