Naughty buddy!

It seems like when I dog-sit something usually goes awry on the day that the people are set to get back.
Last week was no exception.
One of the dogs I was watching got away from me. I was warned that he liked to run, and not to chase him. But I didn't know what to do, so I tried "casually following" him. Nope. Not good enough, he'd turn around to see if I was there and take off running even faster. I'd coax, I'd be authoritative, nothing worked.
Buddy's home is near the Mississippi river and there were many grand, fancy homes, so the dog would run into yards, and I would follow, hoping that if anyone was home they would figure what I was up to, and wouldn't be too upset.
We got to the end of a road, in someone's massive yard , and the dog took off down a steep bluff, the bluff lead to a little open area next to the river. Well I didn't dare try it. I would have probably not been able to get up the cliff again.
Finally I caught up to him in someone's yard - they had a little half fence idea, on one side and in the back, so I cornered him. He was going to keep running. Bad dog!
When I watch him again he will not have off-leash privileges for a good long time

Oh dear Faye I am glad you did not go down that steep bluff.

You really do need to watch them. Animals can be tricky.

@FayeHazel The dog can go back to getting exercise after the owners get home. It won't hurt him to "rest" while you've got to keep an eye on him.

Well... thing is - they have a house by the river and a fenced backyard. You undo the fence to get down by the river. Literally down - 42 steps to get by the river. They like me to put the dogs off leash by the river so the dogs run and play, exercise. That's all well and good , until the dog did what he did - ran up the hill and bypassed the fenced back yard. Well now I know
