Trouble at 3am.

The other night, I was awakened by a bright light shining in my bedroom window and men's voices shouting. They were at the place next door. A sick man lives there alone. Four or five men were all yelling at once.
I did not know what was happening and was wondering whether to call the police. I thought it might be a home invasion. My neighbor opened the door and one man went in. Seconds later, he came out and they all left in the car.
I have not seen the neighbor out since then. I hope he is okay. What would you do? Do you have any startling late night stories?

I don't know that sounds pretty suspicious. I think I might have called. Nothing startling here since I heard the owl that sounded like a horse neighing.

@akalinus It was...apparently it is a noise made by the Eastern Screech Owl.

@akalinus It might be a bit more like a whinny...whatever it was it was unexpected.

We had an ambulance at the corner house, this week. Jay checked on the couple, Marlene had fallen, she was badly bruised.

@akalinus No, my husband didn't help her. Jay went to their home, after the ambulance left.

Did anyone tried to check whether that old man is okay now?

@akalinus You could've asked him directly about the issue.

I would've checked on the neighbor in the morning, after I was sure the coast was clear and the possible danger had passed. Trying to play hero during an event, isn't always the smartest option.

I thought about that but I have never knocked on his door before and it would seem strange if I did. I don't know. I would like to get to know him and share a meal or something because he is always alone. People here would be making stuff up about a relationship. I have no interest in him that way, only as a person alone and lonely.

Oh I would definitely be calling the cops on that one. That sounds like he was outnumbered.
I do not have any late night stories about here except car thieves and bad neighbors.

If it was obvious that there wasn't a party going on, I would have called the police, just for the neighbor's protection.
Do you normally see him outside? If you normally do, but still haven't seen him, you can always knock on his door and, if he answers, tell him you were just making sure he is alright. If he doesn't answer the door, you can call the police and ask them to do a "wellness" check since you normally see him out and about but haven't seen him out like normal and are concerned.

I hate times like this when I'm not sure what to do. It's so difficult because if something happened when I could have called the police, I would feel terrible. Usually though, I don't call and everything's ok.
