NYC teacher vaccine mandate is back in effect

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio issued a vaccine mandate for teachers (and I"m assuming other staff, administrators, bus drivers, etc) that was to go into effect last night at midnight. The teachers' union filed suit and a temporary injunction was issued. Today the US Second Circuit Court of Appeals dissolved the injunction. There will be a hearing on the issue on Wednesday and de Blasio said that he expects that the vaccine will be in effect after that. If I remember correctly there is no testing option instead of getting the shot.

No one should be forced to get a vaccination; but I'm all for teachers, health care workers, etc. getting the shots.

There are pros and cons for the vaccine mandate. I certainly don't want to impose the vaccine on those who do not want to have it regardless of their reason but these people must be held responsible for their actions as well.

I'm on the fence about this. I agree that a person shouldn't be forced to do something with their body, they don't want, but at the same time... as a student I had to undergo anual TB tests and occassionally the flu shot. With that being said, why would the teacher's union complain so strongly? I'm sure there's other shots/tests required to teach, aren't there? I know Stacy on here has been sharing her journey to sub at a pre-school out in California.... so why is this different?

I do not think that anyone should be forced to get the vac but if it is for a job then so be it, You got both vacs right? So there are not problems for you,

Is there testing available for those who do get the vaccines? I would think most teachers would want it but then I've not had the regular flu shot not the one for pnumonia which I'm being founded to get since I'm almost seventy.
