The best(?) part of waking up...

Years ago, there was a particular brand that routinely ran commercials that used the jingle "the best part of waking up..." I am thinking of that this morning not due to having had a cup of that particular brand of coffee but due to something else. I was barely awake when I realized that I smelled the odor of something cooking-- reminiscent of barbecuing. Was the husband cooking? Wait, no that's not right. After the popcorn incident, he's really not allowed access to the stove except to make coffee... As the realization struck me, I bolted out of the bedroom into the kitchen. Since we are in a small apartment, that wasn't as much of a sprint as that sounds. He had left the burner on after making some pour-over coffee. The now-completely-devoid-of-any-ounce-of-moisture kettle was halfway on the burner getting singed. Meanwhile, he's sitting just feet away off in his work zone-- completely oblivious. *Sigh* When he gets overwhelmed with work, he gets like this. He does weird stuff that just boggles the mind.

I agree with you. He doesn't belong in the kitchen. I'm glad nothing burned.

Oh, he did scorch my kettle miserably. I'm just glad that there wasn't a fire. Fortunately, I do have a (less loved) backup for the kettle. I want to replace the ruined one too, though, since it matches my cookware.

@just4him I will replace it. Fortunately, the style and color are not likely to be discontinued in the near future. While I'm at it, I may have to pick up an extra piece from the line. It seems only fair (and is a lot better than him doing something like buying flowers as an apology).

I'm glad that the kettle can be replaced and that nothing else got damaged. I'm a bit surprised that the smoke detector didn't go off considering how sensitive it can be at other times.

I'm just glad that I got up when I did. If I were a deeper sleeper, there likely would have been a fire, because he certainly wasn't taking any notice of things.

When his workload gets really intense, he does get hyper-focused on it.
