Dagupan Bangus - the best milkfish ever!

A town or a barrio usually prides its self by its produce. That is why we call sausages 'longganisang Lukban' or 'longanisang Vigan.' For a milkfish of an industry city in Central Luzon, Dagupenos flaunt the bangus. Even holds an annual bangus festival. In the picture are two packs of milkfish, the yellow one is smoked and the other one simply marinated in vinegar and garlic. Whichever is the preparation, the milkfish always are very fleshy and tasty. A dear friend sent me the two packs of milkfish. That is quite expensive if we buy it in the local market. Am I not blessed to have a friend who owns fishponds in Dagupan. My lunch today!

Wow. I have a friend from Pangasinan. He said that it is really cheap to buy fish there because they are near bodies of water.

Yup. Milkfish, though not as affordable now, remains a favorite choice for a few reasons. First, a number of dishes can be concocted such as hot 'sinigang' with tamarind for a base, 'inihaw' or grilled with onion and tomato stuffing inside, 'relleno' that has peas and carrots all mixed with the fish meat, etcetera. Second, for health reasons, the doctors advise fish with white meat. Third, the fish is readily available and accessible.

@RebeccasFarm I do believe that wholeheartedly. The blessings pour a bounty. I couldn't thank God enough because the manna keeps coming as He promised.

That is true. Very timely, too. The pantry is empty. My daughter is very busy with work, I was left with a can of tuna, a little cheese and two eggs for breakfast. Turned it into a tuna cheese melt. Was wondering what could be for lunch, and the LalaMove arrived with the milkfish blessing. I remembered someone telling me ages ago that I would never ever go hungry in my life. Thank you very much. Ain't our God always has the perfect timing!

Spicy with red chili? Or with plain garlic and ground black pepper?

Milkfish, I believe, is endemic to Southeast Asia. Yup, my friend is a thoughtful and generous giver. Not only to me but even to strangers who stop by her front door. Once. when my friend was still struggling with the family finances, a pregnant woman asked for food and she gave two kilos of rice she had at home. Later that day she learned her son secured a well-paying job in a bank.

@misunderstood_zombie She is. Last Saturday, I purposely drove to her place to surprise her with baked chicken empanada. Then she gave me a bowl of fruit salad with buko (coconut). Felt like Christmas.

Nice that you have a feiend that could supply you with that fish every now and then. I think we just had one a week ago and it was nice to taste such food since we rarely have the time to buy one as we rarely go to the market to buy it.

Not actually a supply. Only on harvest time. But my friend is a constant giver. She gives me gifts I wouldn't ordinarily buy for my self like a scarf or a branded blouse. O di ba! I'd buy her a gift later on - to surprise her today.

In agreement with that. We have to thank the Pangasinense for producing milkfish we could be proud of. Caring for the fish especially when threatened by storms and floods is not easy at all.
