Thursday is Weekly Shopping Day

Greece

Thursday is the least favourite day of the week for me. It is the day my husband and I head to the shops to get all the provisions we need until the next Thursday. It is a hectic day. Prior to my desire to have an adventure in Greece, Thursdays were a lot easier in England. For a start there was a variety of shops and all pretty close to home, so if something was forgotten it was easily picked up. I shopped alone in those days as it was before we were picking up additional food for the 6 rescue dogs and 3 cats that share our lives. Now the load is bigger and heavier. It is a twenty minute busy drive along narrow roads to the town, generally very full of pedestrians criss crossing the road with coffee in their hands, and cars double and even triple parked. Cars have to avoid pedestrians, not the other way around. No traffic wardens here. We make an early start because of the crowds and the virus. We have to be masked to get into the supermarket and although distancing is marked people crowd in too close regardless. It isn't all gloom and doom, the staff are friendly and the shop is well supplied. On the return trip, we are relaxed enough to enjoy the view as the main road runs alongside the sea for a while. When we get home we enjoy coffee and a cake and then I am able to enjoy the rest of the day.

Yes it is nice but when the traffic is heavy then it is not a good idea to take my eyes off the road to enjoy the view.

Busy day for you, on Thursday. Never a dull moment in your home with all your fur babies! How nice. Thursday is restocking day for Walmart I shop at, so I go Friday or earlier weather permitting, bus rider. Your husband helps with bathing your fur babies? We too must be masked to ride bus so and everywhere else.

Our animals are not exactly what i would describe as fur babies! They are rescued dogs and only one of them enjoys water and all of them are too big to bathe! It is the hose pipe on very hot days for them. Then they oblige and stand still until the water cools them down. The cats cannot tolerate even a little splash.

@oahuwriter Well the two dogs that are not enclosed and the four cats have reached a compromise. Elsa, the guard dog won't always let them cross the threshold to come in, but. she is agreeable to them walking around her or jumping over when they want to go out. When it is time in the aftrnoon for the enclosed dogs to run free the cats arrive on the windowsills and come in. The three male dogs will chase the cats. The dogs all get along with one another. The four cats have preferences. They sometimes squabble and they prefer to keep to themselves when they are in the garden. Separate rooms (aka beds) when in the house.

That does sound like a stressful trip to get your groceries. I haven't been inside a grocery store since the pandemic lockdown of last year and now do a curbside pickup for our groceries. It's worth the little bit they charge for a pickup.

Ah Marilyn you are living in the States where things are organised. Greece is in many ways a do it yourself country.

@Marilynda1225 But that is always the way when we are used to good things. I take the view of the sea for granted! USA is the envy of the world - the old world that is. We will progress but never catch you up.

@41CombedaleRoad I certainly understand how different things are from here in the US compared to Greece. Things can be so much easier here and we take it for granted
