I have always enjoyed Charlie Brown and all of his friends, including Snoopy. I have been reading about him and his first days. On October 02, 1950, the first Charlie Brown comic strip was published. Over the years nearly 18,000 strips have run about the life of Charlie Brown and his friends in the more than 70+ years they have been in existence. And more than thirty televisions specials have been shown on CBS and PBS. Most of these have been Thanksgiving and Christmas themed but a few have had Valentine, Halloween, and Autumn subjects. The creator of this beloved character was Charles M. Schulz who died in February of the year 2000 at the age of 77.
The first Charlie Brown tv special was on December 9, 1965. (Do you remember where you were on that date? Me? In front of the tv.) In 1966 The "Great Pumpkin" followed with the "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" in 1973.
The storyline of the comic strip is that of the meek and soft-spoken bald-headed Charlie Brown and his friend's day-to-day lives. Charlie adopts a cute puppy from the Daisy-Hill Puppy Farm who grows up to be no ordinary dog. He is often seen flying his World War II flying ace dog house with his best friend, Woodstock. Charlie has a baseball team and he has some very unordinary friends.
There are actually ten characters that makeup Charlie's friends and pets. There was Sally, his sister; Marcie, Peppermint Patty, Schroeder, is the catcher on Charlie Brown's baseball team and loves playing his toy piano; Snoopy, Charlie's and Sally's loving pet; Spike, Snoopy's older brother; Linus van Pelt, Charlie's best friend; Lucy van Pelt, Linus' sister; and Woodstock, the little yellow bird, and Snoopy's best friend; Rerun is Lucy's and Linus's younger brother.
Interesting Fact** When Charles M. Schulz was in high school the original drawings he did(of Snoopy) for the yearbook were rejected. Now that same school has a 5-foot statue of the dog in front.
This beloved comic strip is still a favorite of mine. I watch it every year and I am 69 years young. It's just not "the holidays" without seeing the Charlie Brown Special.

I was four years of age when Charlie Brown played on television for the first time. I do remember seeing the special cartoons on the former Armed Forces Radio and Television Service (AFRTS) branch called Southern Command Network (SCN) in Panama at a later date however,

I wasn't even born when the first few specials came out. I wasn't born until 1983. I grew up loving this though.

I was born in 1951 so I haven't missed much. Except when I was comatose.
