Short story: A case of reincarnation achieves God's goals for this soul

John based his life on around how he thought that others were thinking about him.
He would never do anything that he thought would upset someone, and so turn them against him, both in mind, or heart.
When, he finally made it to Heaven, after an uneventful life, and a rather easy death too, God asked him,
"What do you want me to think of you?"
"Do you want to subtly control my views of you too?"
"You should have not so much not cared about what others think, but also thought more about what you thought too."
"I will send you back again for another go."
And so, John came back again, and he was born into the body of a tree.
He had no voice, as such, but his mind did work for him, as he watched the world going on around him.
He did not care anymore what other souls thought of him as this tree.
John lived a long life, as that tree, but eventually, the axeman found him, and he was made into a kitchen table, for that man.
Once again, he became sort of caring about what others thought of him as a table.
Was he an attractive, well built, solid table, or just a cheap, rustic, roughly put together, shoddy, example, of a table?
Some people liked his solidness; others belied it, as being far too heavy for them to move on their own.
One day, a teenage age boy etched a message into him, in his table body, on the upper surface, which said:
"The King's mark."
This hurt the table, but the message did mean something to him too.
He knew the history of this mark, which, centuries ago, used to be etched onto trees.
He recalled that another such mark, the same as this one, was also existing on his underside, unknown, of course to this young boy.
"The King's mark", is an etching of a broad arrowhead, made onto a tree, which had been thusly set aside for the exclusive use for the building of Royal Navy ships.
As iron and steel took over wood to become the preferred material for shipbuilding, these royally marked trees remained untouched, and so many still existing, still bear this mark until today, now many centuries later.
And so now, the table had two King's marks on him, and he remained proud of this, for the rest of his days, as a table.
A housefire eventually saw the end of him though, and once again he found himself in God's company, once more again.
"I have tabled you down here to go into the King's palace here," God said to him.
"You have learnt your lesson well, and you will now be my own personal assistant here in Heaven."
The table, now back in his soul body, did not yet know that every soul that enters Heaven is God's own personal assistant too.
He was just pleased to have made it into Heaven, this time, and maybe, just maybe, it was because he had been earmarked for this, aeons ago too, when God had placed his own mark on this newly created soul too, an arrow that pointed it to Heaven.
All such arrows, fired out from Heaven, eventually return there again, one day.

Thanks. Many do not, of course, believe in reincarnation, but it sure made for an interesting story here....I had fun writing it.

@innertalks well I sort of believe in reincarnation but of course people as people and another life. I once got an interesting prediction you see my parents were immigrants from Latvia after WW II and my prediction was that I had lived previous lives but in Latvia. Since my parents had no choice but to flee their homeland this was my first birth in the US so now I am wondering where I might end up next, Of course, hoping the Lord give me some time like another 10 or so years,

@RasmaSandra I wonder if you believe that your soul mate has come back somewhere too though.
He does seem to be still in the other worlds, from your writings about him here.
I had some interesting past memories come up about "past lives" of mine under hypnosis, many years ago.
I am still not really sure if that's what it really was though.
There might have been some other explanation. It all seemed very real at the time, though.

It sounds just like a human to be so vain as to wonder how they look as a table.

Yes, we are all vain, until, we notice God's mark is upon us, and his gifts are in our hearts, waiting to be lived from as us for him.
God fashions us like the carpenter here, into what usefully serves him the best.
Sometimes, we do not appreciate God's mark on us, until we are marked by life, in a similar way too.
Then we see the truth of who we are in God.

Thanks. It is just a story, as it postulates reincarnation might be true.
The Christian Bible hints at this, but it also says that we only have one life.
In Saint Matthew's gospel, chapter 11, Jesus says in verses, 14-15:
"If you are willing to accept it, he (John the Baptist) is Elijah who is to come. He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
So, John the Baptist, is Elijah come back again.
Whereas, in Hebrews, chapter 9, verse 27, it says this:
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:"
In my story, John got his judgement, but he was allowed to have another chance, and then he was judged, once more.

That is thought-provoking and creative too driving home basic truths that we encounter here.
I feel we have to go through various stages and could have ended up at the top of species after having gone through the grind. It can also happen that we lose our marbles and then have to start with the basics like John had to go through.
Maybe God had to impart tough love too for a reason but then it is better that we make it to heaven on merit than through pleading and, worse, cheating as some are ingrained to do here. Of course, that is not on with God and he will heave us back to a regimental life to impart home truths.

Thanks, siva.
I wondered if people would credit that the soul might stay around with the tree, even when it becomes a table, as it did here, until the table eventually got destroyed by a fire.
John's soul, as a tree, lived a lot longer than his life as a human, and his ingrained habits had plenty of time, to be grained out of him, especially when the carpenter, shaved him down to make a table out of him...lol...

@Shiva49 The tree is more rooted to the Earth than what we are too.
We usually never own our own roots, and want to prance around more freely, than keeping our inner connections alive, to our soul, to God, and to the Earth too.

@innertalks The transmigration of the soul is alluded to for it to attain a variety of experiences that is not restricted to only having a human birth.
Being a tree is not bad at all as it has many uses and benefits many other species too. We may have to step up to match its usefulness as our contribution is questionable and selfish to think of it!

the concept of rebirth. of course, the question then does being reborn improve us or weaken us? do we strive every onward on the path to glory?
or do we wallow in the path of humanity?

With the current state of the world, it would appear that some wallowing does go on, as, in some areas, little growth has been ever achieved over the millennia of life here. It is still a dog eat dog world, so to speak. We still have a warring nature.
On the other hand, there might be an explanation for this.
Did God create all souls at the same time, or is he still creating some even as of today?
If young immature souls are still being created, it would explain why there is such a large gap between some very high spiritual souls, and some seemingly lower, mostly physically embodied souls too.
Some live from their soul down, others do not even credit yet that they even have a soul.
Some are loving in the extreme, some are brutal, in their power hungriness.

@Shiva49 I have heard that our collective consciousness level does increase/rise over time.
Maybe if a lot of people operate at a higher consciousness, it will act as a resistive force in our warring ways too, at/in the lower levels of consciousness still around.

@innertalks Maybe, we need to reach a herd immunity level to raise our collective consciousness.
The good has a tough task at hand as the bad has a stranglehold on the vulnerable.
