Funny how musicians can find different areas of the body to use as inspiration for a song title. They use the senses like your eyes, limbs like arms and legs, and other pieces of your anatomy from head to toe. Quite a creative way to come up with a tune! So, this trivia series contains songs with some musical "body art," hope you enjoy them...
And guess what! "Eye" got some more body part song titles. Let's "see" how you do...
I've noticed that some Hollywood gals seem to capture you with their eyes when you watch them on the silver screen. Bette Davis was one of those talents. So much so they wrote a song about her called "Bette Davis Eyes" which was #1 for Kim Carnes for nine weeks! Take a listen, Bette Davis was a fan of the song (true story), maybe you are too
Fun Fact: Carnes was a member of The New Christy Minstrels before recording as a solo artist.
And now it's time for our artists and trivia songs! Name that tune: Whodunnit?
(Remember words in quotations can provide hints to the music trivia answers)
1. "Bette Davis Eyes" was bumped from the #1 spot on the charts by a "1981 song" featuring a "gym workout video" on MTV sung by an "Australian singer/actress." The song stayed on the chart for 10 weeks and became the best selling single of the 80's in the U.S. The tune's theme was about having sex, but having "fat men doing aerobic exercises in the video" gave the tune a more playful getting in shape feel. This singer's first #1 pop hit was 1974's "I Honestly Love You." You might remember this female artist from her "acting role" playing "Sandy in Grease."
-Do you know the name of this Australian singer import and her suggestive song?
2. This song is very popular with those who like "green beer," and believe in superstitions like "4-leaf clovers" and "Shamrocks." As a matter of fact this "lighthearted tune" was written as a "tribute to the people of this country." A favorite song to sing at a "Pub" come the "middle of March" this tune leaves you happy and "smiling."
-Do you know the name of this recognizable song with "eyes in the title." Can you name the American crooner who is considered the "best" singer of this song? He also made "White Christmas" a classic.
3. This tune was recorded by one of my favorite 60's early 70's "Canadian" bands. The song was the groups first top 10 U.S. hit. The next year, they had two US chart-toppers: "American Woman" and "No Sugar Tonight." This was a sad song, the guy's woman "breaking her vow to him," and leaving him crying because he's "never gonna see another one (girl) like I had with you." One of the members of this band quit in 1970 and formed his own group, "Bachman-Turner Overdrive."
Fun fact: This song earned them international acclaim and a US record deal with RCA.
-Can you "Guess" the name of this band and their eye-titled song?
Ok, let's "not fail to see" these clues correctly when solving the song and artist answers. If your stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as Randy Newman would say, "You've Got A Friend In Me."
Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with another music trivia quiz in 2 weeks. Stay tuned...
