A little sad today.

Today marks the 50 year anniversary of a friend who was only 16 when he died. He was involved in a tragic car accident, a passenger in a car that was travelling too fast and went out of control. Even though it was all those years ago I still remember the anguish suffered by the family and can't imagine what it must have been like to get that knock on the door to receive such terrible news. Sometimes I worry about getting old and then I realise how lucky I am to have reached my 70s and still be in good health. Age doesn't come without its problems but I know that every year is a privilege so I will focus on the future and enjoy the rest of my days as best I can whatever it brings.

@LadyDuck His mum is also gone now but we went to the mortuary to see him after the accident (I went to support my friend). She was almost hysterical.

@LadyDuck It's horrible to lose a loved one that way. I am so thankful I haven't had to suffer loss through an accident

@sprite1950 I cannot even imagine the pain of a mother losing a young child.

I am sorry about your friend, he had a long life to live. You have my parents' age, I don't consider them old, they are well for their age. I thank God every day for having them with me.

I( am beginning to feel a little older even though my health is good! I am 71 next Monday. Having said that I got covid and had it very mildly so I guess I'm doing okay. Have your family managed to avoid it? It is so bad in our schools here.

@nela13 I feel well but I think I sleep more than I used to. I'm not sure if that's just my age or whether it is related to covid. I only had it in September this year.

@sprite1950 only my sister family had covid but they were in Mozambique when they got infected. They are all well now. Do you still have second effects of Covid, like being tired?

@RebeccasFarm I'm lucky in that I've only lost my parents who were old. Touch wood I haven't lost anyone in tragic circumstances.

@sprite1950 I live beside a graveyard and see families quite often coming to graves on anniversaries and it’s always so sad. I actually know most of the occupants and it’s all so sad.

@xFiacre That must make your house extra special to you. I don't know how I would feel. I actually think I would like it in the day but not sure about night.

@sprite1950 Not a bit. I know many of the people buried there and their families. The graveyard lies betwixt the Church and my house. I used to be the minister there.

I don't think his parents ever really got over it. He has three sisters who are alive and well but he was their only son.

He would be 66 if he was here today. I wonder what he would have done with his life.

I remind myself of that. I think it's just as well we don't know when our time will come.
