About that shooting on the "Rust" movie set

Having been on few movie and television sets as an "extra" actor, this shooting is a shock to me. It has happened before though. The last time it happened was in 1993, when Brandon Lee (son of Bruce Lee), was fatally wounded on the set of "The Crow." The thing is, everything seems so regimented and overmatched on those sets. You'd think that the person putting the gun in place to be used would have checked what kind of rounds it was loaded with. The story I read referred to an "armorer" who would be responsible for loading the gun with the blanks called for in a scene like that. It almost makes me imagine a movie where there is some grudge to settle and the gun to be used is fine, loaded properly, then somehow gets messed with by the grudge holder and results in a death. Perhaps the one who dies in this case would be the intended one or the real target is the person who fires the shot. His or her career as an actor could well be over after such a terrible killing.

Right - you would think that sort of thing would be checked and double/triple checked . So tragic. Not only may the career be over, but the actor is a forever changed person. I don't know that I could live with myself knowing that someone lost their life over something I did, even if a prop master was technically in charge of the weaponry.

Yes, Baldwin will be a different man in some ways, I'm sure.

It is an unfortunate incident for everyone involved. I am a bit nervous whenever pyrotechnics or weapons of any kind are used for the shows that I work on. One young lady was knocked out by a sword in the fight scene during Macbeth.

Oh my gosh, what a crazy situation. I just cannot believe it, even though it has happened before. How scaring for everyone involved, too.

Yes, now it sounds as if they were having troubles already with people quitting over safety issues.

If I were Alec Baldwin, I would not only feel like my movie career was over, I would feel like my life was over. I can't imagine the pain he is going through.

Didn't an episode of Perry Mason have something like this happen?

It is rare, but it has happened a very few times before.
