This countdown isn’t monkeying around! A big shout-out to @DocAndersen , who suggested this theme. So peel me a ‘nanner, toss me a peanut, this countdown’s done made a monkey out of me!! (That’s a paraphrase of the Bill Anderson composition “Peel Me a Nanner,” if you’re wondering….or even if you aren’t!
)
#10: Let the Monkey Drive - Sparks
A lot of times, when there’s a monkey in a song, there’s some humor. That’s evident right here, with California’s fun rock brothers Ron and Russell Mael. These guys can write some downright hilarious songs. And they don’t disappoint here.
Building on the theme of “All You Ever Think About is Sex” from the 1983 album In Outer Space, this song follows a couple who are out for a ride along the Pacific Coast Highway…and get a little “horny.” So, the woman suggests, let the pet monkey drive the car while they hop in the back seat and make like Marvin Gaye and get it on.
That’s cool, because the monkey “never pries in our affairs, he never listens, never stares.” He’s also a typical driver, “passing cars and passing trucks and swigs some coffee from Starbucks” and tosses in “obscene gestures he learned from me.”
So everybody’s happy!!!
