I worked for the college library and it was great,I could do my work, read any book and be in charge that was the best. Would you ever work in a library any library can you stand the quietness?

I worked for both the college library and the public library. While I was a student worker, they made allowances for studying during slow periods. It still wasn't very quiet. But, when I went to work for a public library, there were few slow periods. And, when it was slow, there was other work to catch up on. We weren't allowed to spend a lot of time reading books-we had to do that on our breaks. Also, it was rarely quiet. People bring their kids in and they run around all over the place, people talk on cell-phones, etc. And, the patrons are often extremely demanding and very rude. They would damage the book and then accuse the staff of doing it. We've had people claim that they've returned a book and say that we stole it to get more money! But, there were perks. We usually got to see what new books came in and often had first pick, except when there's a waiting list. The hours were generally flexible, and there were fun things like crafts with the kids, discussing books with patrons, and doing research on an interesting topics.

Yeah, that's an accurate description. Although I was lucky that no one at my branch minded when I read books during slow periods as long as I still got the work done. I learned how to walk and read at the same time, so I could shelve books and read the shelves while reading a book at the same time.

I worked for 6 years at the public library. I love books and being around so many was fun. Also, for the most part my coworkers were easy to get along with. But, I wouldn't say the library was just a lot of quiet. Some of the patrons could be very demanding and rude. Especially when it came to paying their library fines. Also, putting the books in order when patrons stuck them anywhere on the shelves could be a pain. Aside from those complaints, I loved working at the library. The most fun, besides first access to new books, was being able to recommend books to patrons.

I love being in a quiet environment, I think I would jump at the opportunity to have a library job in a heart beat...it's my kind of place.
