Two is not enough

It's been a few days since I started the process of looking for something else in this general region. Originally, we had hoped to suffer out the lease and go farther afield. However, that is not safe nor possible at this point for multiple reasons. More than half-a-week later, and exactly two applications have gone in. Two. That seems dreadfully inadequate given that the goal should be getting out of here as quickly as possible. The sooner we move, the better. My husband, however, seems to be in denial of the reality of the situation. He thinks that applying to two places is more than adequate. He wants to wait for answers on those before applying to anywhere else. Two applications isn't sufficient, is it? How many places did you apply to at a time when looking for a rental? If I could, I'd already be out of here. I'd be holed up in some cabin or B&B until we had something long term. The husband has also vetoed that, because he doesn't want to spend the money and doesn't want the "disruption." Disruption? Dangerous neighbors just outside the door seems like a rather big disruption to me.

I'm so sorry you're faced with this. Could you apply to more places without his signature?

He is the one who knows all of the information since he is the one who is the primary earner. I would just end up having to keep asking him for details, and that would defeat the purpose.

@rebelann Yeah. So, I am sticking to the research portion of the program. I'm looking for the places and vetting them as best I can. I'm trying not to let desperation for another place override any doubts I have about a place.

How much longer is your lease term? I take nothing happened at the meeting with the powers that be...?

@wilsongoddard I take it he is not as disturbed by this situation as you are. It sounds like you have moved around alot so he might be weary.

We can end our lease-- with 30 days notice. That was their "generous" offer. They're willing to take a month's rent for an apartment that we will hopefully not be occupying. Given the situation, it is an absurdity, but that is how it stands.

@snowy22315 It is tiring. I'd hoped that this place would be good for a few years until we could buy another place. I think that it is sinking in with him, though, that we have to do a lot more than just a couple of applications. He's put in another one a bit ago. So, three... I don't know what the magic number of applications is, but I am going to worry that it isn't enough until we have an approval. Then, with that in hand, I'm going to worry about safely getting us and all of our stuff out of here.

I'm so sorry for what you are going through. Hoping that you can move out of this neighbourhood at the earliest possible. I have been in a somewhat similar situation.

I am so sorry this is happening..what kind of criminals are you dealing with there? Anyway, no answer for that I can understand. No 2 applications is not enough.

The sort that will still be here to traumatize the next people foolish enough to move in. No, I didn't think that two was enough either. I am working on upping my "encouraging" him, since I really am not well equipped to actually fill out the applications. I could do it, but I'm going to have to interrupt whatever he is doing every few minutes to ask some question... That doesn't seem to be a very efficient process.

I have never lived in an apartment so I do not know what you have to do in order to get in.

You're lucky. It was never my goal to live in an apartment, but we've been in a few.
