I have a young bass student who may become a superstar one day!

I haven't even asked her how old she is, but I would guess her to be about 14. She is quiet and very pretty, but today she had some "attitute" make-up on. I didn't comment on it. I have been teaching her scales, both pentatonic (blues, more or less) and straight, and also some "riffs." Prior to today (and also today), we've worked on the bass riffs to Stevie Wonder's Superstition, and Cream's version of Crossroads. Those are some bad-assed riffs. Today, I taught her the bass riff to Jimi Hendrix's version of Hey Joe. She "got it" and was playing it at 3/4 speed by the end of the lesson. It's a pleasure to work with someone who is so talented AND so motivated. I can tell she practices when she's at home. What should I spring on her next week--Miles Davis?

@TheHorse I hope this girl continues being motivated. Motivation is harder to find than talent.

@Shavkat I said "she" in my post. But I know that Filipinos use gender-neutral pronouns. Am I right?

Was she in bad mood? It happens to teenagers. I am glad she is a good student. I like a lot how Johnny Cash plays guitar.

I think the attitude make-up was just her being a teenager.

@Hannihar Heh. I am used to NOT getting the credit I deserve. I am often the "ghost writer" behind good things.

Heh. Listen to his album, Kind of Blue, from 1959. The bass player plays a big role, as does everyone else.

Miles Davis? Hmm? Interesting choice for a bass player. How about the bass line from the Barney Miller theme song? I really like it. If I was learning to play bass, that would be one I would like to play. It's great that your student is talented AND motivated. I know a young lady who plays piano who is very talented and added a few more instruments to her music endeavors.

The bassist from The Pursuit of Happiness is now a radio personality and he's often said that people have asked him if he could play that.
