It's just the first day of November but the groceries have already put fruit cakes on the shelves. Can't help but buy a fruit cake now.
I had a thin slice this lunch time and wow, it's down memory lane with all the loved ones still together sharing food for the holidays. I think I am the only one who loves fruit cake.
That's time long gone.
But my daughter shares the same passion for fruit cake.
Who loves fruit cake?

You have a good palate!
Yup, the fruit cake is packed with everything. Hmmm, the smell of brandy was good.

@merrybelle2021 Really? That's interesting. I know someone who gets tipsy with grapes but with fruit cake, that's a first.

I remember when I was a kid my grandmother used to buy to an Irish nun who makes a very good fruit cake. We always have that during Christmas since the nun will only prepare those only on Christmas time. But I think that nun either transferred to another place or has passed away. After that, there were many local entrepreneurs that followed to produce their own version of fruit cakes but so far, I have not found the same quality of the fruit cake we used to buy.

That must be a special fruit cake the recipe of which is Irish. Yum. You are lucky to have tasted the original.
Through the years though, I learned that the more expensive the fruit cake, the better the taste. The commercialized ones lack ingredients or bland from lack of brandy.
Fruit cakes are prepared long before the yule season, I think, to get that perfect taste.

@eileenleyva True it has a unique taste and the brandy she used there is a bit strong hehe. My grandma use to tell that preparation is indeed long that she could only make a few hundreds before she could sell to the public.

With fruitcake, it always feels I've been deprived for ten long months that the moment I see one on the grocery shelves, I have to buy it. Sounds crazy but that's really me. Hay!
