Hi guys, Hope you all are doing good. I am doing good too. I believe that the biggest communication problem is we don't listen to understand but we listen to reply. There are very few people who are good listeners hence they try to understand what others are saying. Mostly people listen to others and in their mind they are busy thinking what reply to give to it. Personally speaking, I try to listen to others in order to understand what they are saying rather than just listening to reply quickly. In such cases, misunderstandings increase as we don't listen the full thing, listen in parts and based on it we reply which may cause more problems. Share your thoughts about it. Have a good day. Take care!!

That's so important. But very few people actually have that. True listening happens when your mind and heart are also involved there along with ears.

Rightly said. I hope you are one of the few people who have that ability. I have it too

@Rashnag My profession as a counselor demands that. And I work with special needs children. So, I have to listen with my heart as many of these children are not expressive with their words. But I won't say that I am perfect there. I am trying to consciously do that and improving with it.

Sometimes you can guess what a person is about to say before he/she opens their mouth. In such cases we have to stop them by cutting into their first word. Listen we should to those people who really want to share their problems and want a solution from you, not the scheming ones.

@Rashnag People who can't communicate well can be considered but not people who keep beating round the bush who try to confuse you just like politicians.

Yes ma'am, as you said there are some people like that and they should be treated that way. Still I feel we should listen to whole thing first then react to it. Many times people aren't good at communicating properly from start

Yes, generally, I would agree with you there. Most people are only half listening, because they are already working on their reply, in their mind too. But additionally, there is another reason why people do not listen fully too. With proper listening, there is a need to listen fully, but when we do not value people enough to value what they say, (or we do not value them, these people, period, which is even more worse) we will not listen fully to them either, but yes, trying to fashion our reply too early does block effective listening too. I used to only half-listen to my father speaking to me, because I had little interest in what he was saying, and it was also interfering with my watching the television, when he used to one-way talk, a monologue, to me when I sat next to him, in our lounge room, when I was a teenager.

@Rashnag The point I was making is that we do not even think them worthy of replying properly too, so we do not listen fully to them, when they speak to us, as we think that they would have nothing of value to say to us. A superior, arrogant attitude then, like this, also blocks/hinders our listening ability too.

Glad that you shared your thoughts here. Yes it's not good when we don't pay much attention and half listen for the sake of replying. Tc

That's very true. Personally, it is very important to me to understand what they are trying to tell in their story. I think it is one of the appreciation we can give as they have already put their trust on us to hear their stories that's why it is necessary for me to completely understand, even when my friends tell their story by chat, I always read it twice or more just so I don't miss the point.
