Automatic renewals

I got an email from the public library yesterday letting me know that the DVD I borrowed has been automatically renewed. This is a new thing. Whatever items we have borrowed from the library will now be automatically renewed one time as long as there are no holds or other restrictions on those items. I guess that’s a convenient thing so you don’t have to worry about not being able to finish reading or watching the borrowed items before the due date. On the other hand, since fines are no longer charged on items that are returned late I’m not sure how that’s a benefit.

This is a good service of the library and I don't have to worry about late fees

I have no idea. They are obviously not in the business of making money.

That's a good deal. I'm surprised that they aren't charging fines though.

I think that if you have accumulated a certain amount in fines you may be restricted from borrowing library materials. Maybe that is why they did away with them.
