What About the Death Penalty in the US?

Back in the 1980s, a man in my state of Oregon was convicted of murdering eight women and suspected of fourteen total murders. He was sentenced to death, but now will be resentenced, probably to life in prison, which is no picnic either. I will say now that someone like that, in my opinion, should have been executed. But no one has been executed in Oregon since 1962. In fact 22 states and Washington, DC have banned the death penalty. It is up to each state in the US. I came back to add that I just read about a North Carolina man that spent 24 years in prison for a murder he didn't commit. I am glad he was not executed. This happens too often, and many are people of color. The US Federal government executed five people in the last few months of the Trump presidency. (In England and Wales, the death penalty was abolished in 1969) A long line of Oregon governors has had a moratorium on the death penalty, so It is now unlikely to happen again here. So, is the death penalty a good thing or not? Does your state or country still execute people?

I see the last person executed there was in 2009. So many states that have it seldom use it. See @FourWalls comment below.

Some people seem to be asking for peath penalty. But I always ask myself: what if, after all, they are innocents? There have been cases.

Yes, there have been many cases like that. That is why i have mixed feelings. But this guy should have been executed.

There are a lot of cases where the person is innocent but if they are guilty and have killed lots of people why should we support them in prison.???
