Just recently, I heard a beautiful story about a teenage wife who was walking along the beach one day with her Mom. She asked her mother, "How does a woman hold her husband?" The Mama knew her daughter was expecting a speech and hours of advice. Instead the older woman stopped and picked up two handfuls of sand. She held the sand in her right hand tightly and squeezed hard. The sand fell through her fingers. The tighter she squeezed, the more sand fell to the ground. The other hand she kept open. The sand stayed. The daughter immediately understood what her mother wanted to convey.

That's a good image. It speaks more loudly than a long speech could.

Maybe she was around 18-19 years old which is technically legal for marriage in the Philippine civil and church laws.

That lass had a very clever mother. What a simple way to convey some advice.

Sometimes words are not enough to get a message across. Very often using simple actions but with deeper meaning have more impact.

It's like the story of a bird. When you hold it tightly the more it struggles to get away.
