Staying power.

Falling in love is one thing, staying in love is something else. The first part is easy enough, so easy that we use the word "fall". It does not take much planning to fall into anything. Perhaps that is why almost everybody "falls in love". A marriage or a love relationship needs a lot of staying power to last a long time. It rests on the degree of maturity of both partners. It is born after years of inner growth. It calls for a solid emotional make up.

@Junbals I feel like the traditional matchmaking love match between families like some of our great grandparents' times sometimes have more lasting love than modern couples.

Matchmaking love? Is that the institution which allows couple to find their match based on some objective criteria like family background, educational attainment, likes and dislikes, etc?

I think you are wise. The better we know someone the more we come to know their imperfections (we all have them) and certain things irritate us. We must keep communicating with each other in a clear fashion

If they do not grow each other, divorce or annulment will be the next thing to happen.

Lack of understanding and communication is the reason for failed relationship. I think both of these are required to make a relationship work
