The Godmother of Thanksgiving

On September 28, 1863, a letter sent to Abraham Lincoln is often said to be the main factor for pushing Lincoln's Thanksgiving Proclamation. But for more than three decades a magazine editor, Hale, had been writing articles and letters advocating for a national day of thanksgiving. Sarah Josepha Hale is now famous for writing "Mary Had A Little Lamb" but she also goes down in history as getting the most credit for helping to set in motion the famous Abraham Lincoln's Proclamation that took place in October 1863.
