Waukesha, Wi back in the news yesterday. So, you might remember Waukesha being in the news about the parade tragedy well now they are back in the news again. Last night a condo building was evacuated due to structural issues. The six story, 48-unit building was evacuated when an engineering report said the structural columns were compromised making the building an imminent danger of collapsing. The police and fire departments showed up and told those that lived there they had 15 minutes to collect what they can and evacuate. The said many were going to be housed in a local hotel and that authorities were working with the local Salvation Army to find housing for others. Not exactly what someone want to hear and have happen to them just before the holiday. I guess after the Florida collapse, I guess it is better to be safe than sorry.

Terrible time for that to happen. Though, I'm sure there is no good time for it either..

agree, not sure there would be a good time to have to just pick up and leave your home. I'm sure they had to leave much behind.

Yeah, it would be a real pain but better than dying. I think it is better to error on the side of caution when it comes to something like this.

The thing that kind of bothers me about this story (which I also read on Milwaukee media websites) is that the authorities did this AT NIGHT. What???? You mean to tell me they couldn’t have done this in the daytime, when people would have been able to see things (for starters), make plans, etc? Yes, I do understand that most people might not have been home in the daytime, but they could have moved the people who were there immediately, then escorted one or two families at a time to their apartments to get their belongings. I’ll tell you, though, all of this “high-rise collapse” in the news makes me very thankful I live in an old house. I’m not worried about the construction on this, because back when this thing was built, it was built to last!

That did strike me as odd too, why wait till 7pm to tell people. You think they found out during the day not at that time of night. I was thinking about it and I could get out fast but 15 minutes to pack everything up would be quite hard.

Not the best time for this to happen but hopefully they will be alright with where they need to move to.
