I have spent part of my day cutting pills.

I can´t understand why labs make so big pills. Luna will not swallow them and she has to get well. Yesterday, I placed one in a very big piece of cheese but I could hear her crunch them with her teeth. So, today, I cut them in 2 and placed them in 2 smaller pieces of cheese. After all, if she is going to tear them with her reeth I can do the same and save enough cheese to have until she gets well.

I'll never understand why some pills are small and why some are huge. I know each pill has to equal a certian ammount, but still that's insanity.

A dollop of butter works good also. If the pill is covered with butter, it's easier to swallow without chewing it.

I halved the big pills and it is working. I put the halfed pills inside cheese and cover it all with a bit of dog food.

@kobesbuddy So far she has taken them. But the antibiotic is for 10 days, twice a day.

I use peanut butter to give my dogs meds. They don't even notice the pill is in there. They just swallow. No chewing at all.

@Vikingswest1 Yes, I did that with Kobe, either butter or peanut butter.

@kobesbuddy I've used butter too. Works like a charm. They don't even notice the pill, no matter how large it is. Gulp. Gone. Lol.

She is aware now that I´m giving her pills so I´m placing the cut pills inside cheese and hotdogs and mix it with a little bit of dog food. She eats the pills first and the hog dog as cheese tastes better. Dumb Luna

I think that we can cut them in half if we aren´t taking them for a long time.

@Courtlynn Anyway, Luna crushes them with her teeth. So it is better if I put a half in each piece of cheese.

I bought some calcium pills once but they were big enough to choke a horse. I never did finish the bottle.
