I am sure that Sarasota Marine Patrol Officer Ron Dixon will say he was doing his duty when he saw a catamaran on its side in Sarasota Bay on Friday without the occupant inside. Ron then saw the elderly man floating in the bay with his life jacket on him which saved the sailor of the catamaran from drowning. Ron was able to save the sailor and take him to a safe place. As usual in these cases, timing was important to locate someone in trouble and take them to safety. The good part of this story is that the catamaran was not damaged. The sailor that was rescued by the officer was able to resume sailing in the bay. The cause of the accident was that the sailor of the catamaran was taking a trip in the bay was not prepared to sail in a very windy day.

That is true since Officer Dixon has stated that lifejackets save lives in boating accidents.

I hope the sailor will be more aware of the conditions next time he takes his catamaran out.

I'm glad he was rescued; and I'm glad he was wearing a life jacket.

The patrol officer said that wearing a life jacket did save the sailor who was in the bay.

Windy days I believe are not safe on the bay.

Officer Dixon is telling boaters never take a boat out on the sea during high wind days.
