Cryptocurrency, new trend?

Cryptocurrency is a type of digital currency that generally only exists electronically. There is no physical coin or bill unless you use a service that allows you to cash in cryptocurrency for a physical token. Lot of people around me have that, and i think lot of people talk about that nowadays, is it a new thing? New trend? Or it has been exist for a long time? What do you think about cryptocurrency?

@nzlz123 It's not granted and there are no rules, it can go up and down even 20% in one day. I think that it's a currency that will be soon regulated.

Actually crypto comes from the picture described and the currency itself is a currency of 8 bit digits number.
