Thanks for your patience while I took the day off yesterday. I know you’re just dying to know what the next song is on this list of songs that Bob Dylan wrote and someone else recorded. This is sort of an asterisk (as is another song later in the list). But I like this song, so it’s included! #8: This Wheel’s on Fire - The Band Truth be told, I just can’t leave The Band out of this countdown. The Band pretty much existed because of Bob Dylan: they were his “backing band” when Dylan “went electric.” Dylan was injured in a motorcycle accident in 1968, which put his touring on hold. While he was recovering his backing band became the band….literally. (Give ‘em credit: they were the actually the first band to pick “The Band” as a name!) The recorded in a house in New York State, and the house was pink, so they called the album Music From Big Pink. This is one of three songs on the album written or co-written by Dylan (the other two being “Tears of Rage,” co-written with Richard Manuel, and a cover of “I Shall Be Released”). It’s a classic tune in the history of The Band. This Wheel’s on Fire Written by Bob Dylan and Rick Danko Recorded by The Band From Music From Big Pink, 1968 If your memory serves you well:
Track 10 from their album "Music from Big Pink" (1968). Composed by Rick Danko and Bob Dylan
