Lakewood Elementary School library teacher Turquoise LeJeune Parker is one person who has compassion for students in the Durham Public Schools District by raising $106,000 dollars through her Mrs. Parker's Professors Foodraiser so that with the help of volunteers in her group will feed students in Durham for the holidays since many of her students come from poor neighborhoods. Turquoise managed with the help of her assistants purchase, pack and distribute over 5,200 bags filled with food to students in all 12 schools in the local district this year. The money will keep the price of food free or at low cost in the Durham School District for this year. I wish that more school teachers would follow her example for students in need around our world by holding fundraisers to keep the costs of school lunches down for needy students around the world.

That’s very commendable of her. I was a teacher and used my own money to pay for school materials, snacks, supplies, and gifts for my students throughout my career.

@Deepizzaguy Many of the teachers did the same. Some kids had nothing while others were well off. They don’t pay teachers enough as it is.

@DianneN I know what you mean that teachers do not earn the huge salary that they deserve.

It is a shame but there must be hundreds of children who go to school hungry each day.
