"Hard Candy Christmas" might get overlooked when searching for Christmas songs but it is a sentimental kind of song that was sung by Dolly Parton. It was written by composer-lyricist Carol Hall for the musical "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas". Even though this musical might have been long forgotten it is worth a look for the great performances, music, and comedy with stars like Burt Reynolds, Dolly Parton, and Jim Nabors.
Dolly Parton's version of this song came out as a single in 1982 and got on the US country singles chart,. She performed this song on Bob Hope's Christmas Special in 1988.
Hard candy means a large array of sweet treats such as candy canes and lollipops and "hard candy Christmas" refers to a time when families didn't have too much money and they could only afford to give hard candy or penny candy for their children usually put in their Christmas stockings, The metaphor hard candy suggests that life can be both hard and sweet.

I chose this song just for that purpose to get people to know about it @LindaOHio you would not know it if you did not watch the musical but it was surprising to me that this song was never mentioned among Christmas songs,

I never really considered that a “Christmas” song, despite it mentioning “Christmas” in the title. In the context of the play/movie it’s definitely NOT one. But that’s okay, it’s a gorgeous song nevertheless.
