Thunder in December

While now, we in Minnesota have snow covering the grass just in time for Christmas - we made it a long while - until the middle of December. Usually here we can have snow any time from the end of October - on. It's fine by me, I don't like being, cold and wet or dealing with the mess is makes when it gets tracked in.
What was so odd - was a few days ago when we got an evening Thunderstorm. I was out driving in it and it was so odd to see Christmas lights and see the rain coming down and hear the thunder. Then the wind picked up, temperatures fell and everything turned to ice and we got some snowfall for the next few days.
I hope the weather has been alright where you are and that you are all safe.

We had thunderstorms for most of three days last week/this weekend. I remember us getting a snowfall in the middle of September on my step-daughter's birthday. She was dancing in the snow. I was grumbling because there was enough I had to go out and shovel the driveway before I could go to work.
I'd rather not have snow, although I do like to watch it falling from the sky.

@FayeHazel I've only not lived in Missouri for one year when I was 18. I lived in Arkansas with my sister. (If you don't know, Arkansas is warmer than Missouri.)
When I was a kid, mom would wait until the second day snow was falling and lay out sheets in the yard to catch it so she could make snow ice cream for us. That was soooo good!
(She told us never to catch snow to eat until the second day of snowfall or the snow could be contaminated.)

Wow, that is early in September. Enough to shovel too. Were you in Missouri at that time?
Hear hear... though if we have to have it , I agree, it's pretty falling from the sky. Once it's on the ground and least it makes things like bright and clean until it gets all full of gunk

@DaddyEvil Snow ice cream you say. That's interesting. I've never heard of it. Do you make it? Interesting, makes sense it could be contaminated though. And of course.... don't eat the yellow snow :-)

@FayeHazel Not usually for Christmas and the forecast is for a mild weekend, with temperatures in double figures. Not the highest, but getting close

Yes dealing with very cold weather and snow could be quite tough.
We had one day if 17 / 4 C and now it is 21 /11 C.. That makes nights cold but days are still ok, with lesser winds during the last few days.. Merry Xmas wishes to you!!

It's been windy, cloudy and overcast. I had to deal with some spitting rain. Last night, my husband told me he could see some lightning, but I never heard any thunder.

Lightning is so pretty. Do you normally get storms like this, this time of year?

I don't know about other places, but it's always been an old wives tale here that if it thunders in the winter, we'll have snow in a few days.

Oh that's interesting. Does it hold true? Actually, do you get much snow?

@FayeHazel We seldom get snow, so I guess that's where that saying came from. I don't remember is or how many times it actually came true.

@1creekgirl Ha ha.... so I take it then that it doesn't thunder much in winter, either?
