Just Like Sergeant Schultz….

I see nothing! Today was my eye examination. Good news, I still have two, one on each side of my nose! Since it was the first time that the VA actually conducted the exam (as opposed to sending me out to some place in town and paying for it) I had to endure the dreaded dilation. You know, those drops they put in your eyes so your pupils become bigger than your head, so they can look all the way back. I always tell them to not bother because there’s no brain back there to look at. They never believe me until they look. My prescription hasn’t changed much. My pressure is normal (which is great and, to me, the most important thing considering the history of glaucoma in my family). They looked at the histoplasmosis scars and said there was no problem. (Me and my big mouth had to mention them….but it’s better than them looking and saying, “Holy cow, what’s THAT?”) So now I’m home, with the lights either off or as dim as I can make them, waiting for those dilation drops to wear off. I’ll see y’all tomorrow. Until then, I see NOTHING!!!!! Tell ‘em, Sgt. Schultz!

Those drops never bother me for some reason. Perhaps it’s because I keep my eyes closed while hubs does the driving.

I don’t really want to meet the person who likes them. Those things are awful!

I don't like when they have to dilate the eyes. Last time when I went outside it looked as if I was having an ugly cry with the tear rolling down my face

PLUS, the headache you have (or at least I had, and others have complained about) all night long from the dilation. Kick the technician and give him/her something to have an “ugly cry” about next time!!!!!

I just had my eye exam too. My glaucoma is under control with the drops I use; and my glasses are still good to go. My dry eye is OK too. I'm glad your exam went well. This was my short exam. In 6 months I have the long exam which I HATE. Visual field test, etc. HATE IT!

My mom and aunt were able to control their glaucoma with drops, too, which is why I want an annual examination. They had a new-to-me way to do the pressure: numb the eyes, then put a machine right on the eye. I guess it’s more accurate than the “puff of air.”

@LindaOHio — you know what she said when I complained about the burning? “Do you have dry eyes?”

@FourWalls I hate the on-the-eye thing. She puts burny drops in my eyes...maybe she does put it on my eyes and I don't realize it? Ewww

Glad you got a great eye exam that is the best news, I know about those drops and never liked returning home after that. I even once had the dentist shoot me up with more than needed novocaine this was way back when I lived in NYC and since the dentist was about five blocks away I walked back home but I could not tell the distance between anything and had to be careful crossing the street,

They dilated Vince's pupils once but hadn't warned him. He had a very torrid time trying to get home.
