Dealing with dead people's business not for the faint hearted...

I'm still at my dad's dealing with stuff that comes up as it comes in. Yesterday, I got a call from a local bakery. Apparently, Jane had ordered a peach and raspberry pie. Only they have no peaches, and she was going to bring them to the bakery. Well, I told her I had no idea where to get peaches, but that I would call back after I talked to the family. We ended up deciding that we would be very happy with an apple pie, so I ordered that instead. I still don't know where she was going to get the peaches, canned or frozen maybe. Picked up the pie and had a nice breakfast with dad. Then the mail came in, Christmas cards, a sympathy card, bills, statements, etc. There was a loan against Jane's trust, so I let her boys know about it. One of them told me to send it to Brenda (his ex wife). My sister said they should be doing that. Well yes, they should, but I'd rather send it and make sure she gets it than to depend on them. Other than that, figuring out what was her money, his money and their money has been challenging but not that challenging. But she had a LOT of things that are auto billing, donations to the Reno Philharmonic, a Sears home warranty, a computer ad blocker program (just NO on that one), etc. Practically nobody will talk to you without a death certificate and/or a Power of Attorney. Did you know that death certificates take weeks? Sigh. For a while, I've been thinking I should get all my stuff together, write down all my passwords, etc. Maybe when I get home. I procrastinate. PS Living with an 89 year old is similar to having a new baby. Every time he falls asleep, you look to make sure he's breathing.

I agree with you... My mom passed in 2002 and it took most of a year to get everything straightened out and get he ex-husband out of my hair... It wasn't fun and I'm not sure how, out of 16 kids, I ended up with the job. Just keep plugging away and, I promise, it will all get done and over with eventually. I'm sorry for your loss.

My sister is amazing and on top of things. I'm just her little helper. but agree, it will all sort itself out (with our help) eventually. Thanks.

It will take time but it will all be settled even if it takes awhile.

Yep, I give it a year, but we'll have most of it figured out much sooner.
